Do these words strike dread and fear in your heart? Do you find managing your own accounts stressful, do you worry that you're doing it wrong (or not doing it at all!)? This is a common problem that many self-employed entrepreneurs face. You've learned the skills of your trade, be that gardening, massage, or baking, but the chances are, when it came to keeping your accounts, you had maybe one lecture on this subject.

You started your own business, full of joy and excitement of the good things to come, and thought "I'll do the accounts later, it's not that important right now, I'll remember what I've spent and received." Then your bogey man that is your accounts becomes bigger and uglier, and you find new and inventive ways of avoiding the problem. The thing is, this isn't going to get any better unless you do something about it.

Every year, people go through this fiasco at tax return time, and swear that next year will be different. The good news is, you don't have to stay in this cycle forever.
