Southgates was established in Withernsea by Stephen Southgate in 1981, practicing as S. R. Southgate Chartered Accountant. In 1984 the practice moved to its current location of Owthorne Manor on Hubert Street. The ethos of the practice is to act as more than a simple accountant whose clients see them at best once a year to complete a Tax Return. We aim to be available to our clients on a daily basis to help them with the running of their businesses and to remove the stress of having to deal with business finances alone.
Southgates has always prided itself with its standard of training and actively encourages all staff to train for appropriate qualifications with the AAT, ATT and ACCA and follow on with continued professional development. In addition to the partners, Lewis McKinley & Lewis Ford have each attained the ACCA qualification whilst training with the practice.
The practice has always aimed to provide a high quality service to our clients at an affordable price and to always make ourselves available for client's needs.

This scheme will allow you to claim a taxable grant worth 80% of your trading profits up to a maximum of 2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
This may be extended if needed.
Your self-employed trading profits must also be less than 50,000 and more than half of your income come from self-employment.
To work out the average HMRC will add together the total trading profit for the 3 tax years (where applicable) then divide by 3 (where applicable), and use this to calculate a monthly amount.
Individuals do not need to contact HMRC now and doing so will only delay the urgent work being undertaken to introduce the scheme.

Plan your Day - Treat the working week as a "normal" week in the office.
Get up and go and work, have lunch breaks and pack up at the end of the day.
It is easy to keep going when you work remotely and regular breaks and finishing on time will help ensure you keep healthy.
Have a Dedicated Working Space - Set up a place to work where it is free from distraction and is quiet.
Go Outside - So long as we remain away from other people, getting some fresh air will improve your health and also is a great way to get away from your desk.

Insurance needs to be fully investigated by all employers - the government has stated that it considers that the current statements made by the government are sufficient to bring interruption to business policies into effect and require insurance companies to make good on those policies.

These are a few of the more common questions we get asked by prospective clients considering using our services.
A: If your existing accountant is offering you an excellent pro-active service at a fair fee then stick with them.
However, different accountants will save you different amounts of tax and provide different levels of business advice.
If your present accountant doesn't offer the type of service you want and that we do offer, then changing over to us is very easy.
It involves just one letter from you and we take care of everything else for you.
